DANCE STYLES

HIPHOP
Hip-hop dance is a style of movement characterized by BOUNCES and ROCKS to hip-hop music. It has deep historical and social roots in African-American culture, originating in the black communities of New York in the 1970s. Although it is often referred to as an independent dance style, hip-hop dance is part of a whole hip-hop culture that also includes deejaying, graffiti, emceeing and breaking.
BREAKDANCE/ BREAKING
Breakdancing, B-boying or B-girling is a dance style that was originally danced on the street and emerged as part of the hip-hop movement among African-American youth in New York in the early 1970s. For many young people, b-boying offered an alternative to the violence of urban street gangs. Today, breakdancing is a globally widespread and recognized dance form. Breakdance culture sees itself as free from boundaries of race, gender or age.
CHEERLEADING/ CHEERDANCE
Cheerleading is an American sport, originally created to cheer on American football teams and spread good cheer. Men and women inspire with lifting figures and acrobatic elements. Cheerdance is a mix of classic cheerleading moves and big, energetic dance moves to upbeat music.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary is an innovative, interpretative dance style that combines techniques from different genres such as classical ballet, jazz, modern dance and lyrical dance. This dance genre, which focuses more on floor work than on leg and pointe work, is not subject to the rules that apply to traditional dance forms. Instead, it relies on improvisation and versatility and is characterized by free and fluid movements that allow dancers to explore the connection between mind and body and ideally evoke emotions in the audience.
AFRO
Afro dance generally refers to a wide variety of dances from sub-Saharan Africa. The style consists of many individual styles, such as traditional dances, dombolo, coupe decale, ben skin, kuduro, azonto and many more.
Nowadays, Afrodance is usually danced to Afrobeats, Afropop and Afrohouse music, which in turn led to the emergence of the modern Afro dance styles of the same name.
This dance style has been around for many years, but with the rise of the African diaspora, the popularity of Afrobeats music and the blending of cultures, Afrobeats dance has gained popularity around the world.
